PRAYING FOR MISSIONARIES?
I felt impressed in my heart today to remind our partners to incorporate us into your private prayer times; making us part of your church’s weekly prayer or small group prayer gatherings.
Diana and I have our own individual prayer life and we also pray with various church groups here for Ukraine. But it is the responsibility of local churches and believers to pray for the missionary works being done overseas. Everyone has a part in that.
Some are sowers, and some are goers. If you are not a “goer” then you are a “sower”. Along with sowing finances, there needs to be sowing in prayer. I am not asking you to pray because some disaster has taken place or is going to happen here in Ukraine; I have just felt impressed to remind people that we are all in this together.
Diana and I are doing our part by “going”. This is our fourth nation to live in full-time as missionaries over the past 21 years. Sometimes it is easy to forget to pray for missionaries because they are so far way and you don’t see them quite so often. I know one church in NY who posts our monthly newsletter to remind their members to pray for us.
Even the Apostle Paul who wrote two-thirds of the New Testament and received revelation of the good news gospel from Jesus Himself, reminded the Church on several occasions to pray for him. You can pray for us the same way.
To the Ephesian church he asks them to pray (Eph 6:18, 19)
1) That utterance may be given unto me
2) To open our mouths boldly
3) To make known the gospel
To the Colossian church he asks them to pray (Col 4:2, 3) that God would open to us a door for the Word of God to be heard.
To the Roman church, he asks them to supplicate in the spirit for his deliverance while he was traveling.
Also along those same lines, Paul said to the Corinthian church, “You also helping together in prayer for us”. (I Cor 1:11)
To the Philippian church, while under house arrest in Rome he says in Phil 1:19 (Amplified) “for I am well assured and indeed know that through your prayers and bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) this will turn out for my preservation (for spiritual health and welfare of my own soul) and avail toward the saving work of the gospel”.
We pray for you, our partners. You are co-laborers with us in the taking of the gospel as we teach, preach and lay hands on the sick.
